Review of Magens Bay Beach Break Port Adventure – St. Thomas, USVI

The view from my chaise on Magens Bay

St. Thomas, USVI is a beautiful port of call. We enjoyed the view of the water and numerous boats while we had breakfast outside at the Cabanas before our port adventure.

When contemplating which port adventure to choose, both Butch and I were really longing for some beach time rest and relaxation, so we chose Magens Bay Beach Break. We booked our adventure ahead of time so our tickets were waiting on our stateroom hook on Embarkation day.

On the outside of the envelope was a checklist of what to bring with us for our adventure (tickets, Key to the World cards, Photo IDs for guests 18 and over, waiver forms for minors (if needed), cameras, bottled waters, sunscreen, cash and credit cards). Our scheduled adventure time was 9:30 a.m. On our tickets, we were instructed to report to Deck 3, Walt Disney Theater.

When we arrived at the entrance to the Walt Disney Theater, we showed the cast member our tickets and she provided us with a sticker to wear for our tour. For our adventure, our character was Hercules. The purpose of the sticker is that when you leave the ship, staff of the tour can see which group you belong to and you can spot the sign for your group (in our case Hercules) which leads the way to the vehicles awaiting you.

Once we boarded our tour vehicle, Air Force One, driven by our driver Papa Bear (I can’t make this stuff up), he gave us each a wristband to wear which identified us as having paid for admission to Magens Bay. There were 25 of us total on our vehicle and we all sat comfortable in 6 rows of seats.

Papa Bear drove us to a lookout area for a quick stop and to take pictures of the breathtaking view. Beware, there are people trying to sell waters and a guy trying to get you to take a photo with him and his mule for a donation (again, I cannot make this up).

After everyone was finished taking photos, we all re-boarded the vehicle to ride the rest of the way to Magens Bay. We arrived around 10:15 a.m. Papa Bear told us all to be back at the dropoff area at 2:00 p.m. for transport back to the boat. He also provided everyone with a bottle of water if they wanted one.

When we walked onto the beach, we were amazed. It is in a cove between two lush, green mountains and the white sand beach is a mile long. The water was a soothing clear blue. It is no wonder that it is considered one of the Top 10 beaches in the world in many travel guides.

Magens Bay

The excursion includes a chaise lounge for each person, and there are plenty so you choose. There is also a changing facility, gift shop, bar, snack bar facility and beach toy rentals. Magens Bay was a beautiful spot for sitting on the beach and swimming in some cool, Caribbean water. I was so ready for a day of relaxing on a chaise lounge with a view like that and the Bee Gees in my earphones. It was heaven and we had an awesome time.

We packed up and went back to the bus at 2:00 p.m. We arrived back at the port around 2:30 p.m. and were dropped off right across the street from the dock entrance. Prior to boarding the Fantasy, we were offered 3 different kind of ice cold water in beautiful glass servers: regular, cucumber/watermelon, and citrus. Then, we were each offered an ice cold folded wash cloth to help us cool off a bit, although the weather was very pleasant with a perfect breeze. Disney Cruise Line had towel racks awaiting our dirty towels from the beach and then we boarded the boat.

It was a great day! I highly recommend Magens Bay Beach Break for a relaxing and rejuvenating day spent out in God’s nature. If you are greatly into snorkeling, I was told that Secret Harbor, Sapphire Beach and Coki are the main beaches for great snorkeling opportunities.

Happy Sailing!
