Fave Five for August

With school starting and changes to our family dynamic it has been a busy month. Next month will be even busier as I embark on some important training for a couple new certifications that you’ll hear about soon enough. Wish me luck! Still, I did manage to single out this month’s fave five. Some are new discoveries, some I have enjoyed for quite a while. I bet you have favorite things to share too. Here are mine:

Audible: I love to read but for the past several years I have been searching for time in which to do it but haven’t managed to find any. I don’t want to miss out on good information, interesting stories or escapes to other places though. This is why I am so grateful for Audible.

I listen to books while I file, make my lists, check off my checklist, decorate my planner or rest before sleep. It has really enriched my life, especially lately when I have listened to some awesome selections like Atomic Habits, by James Clear and Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People, by Bob Goff (did you know that he calls Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland his “office”)?

Wine Wand: Since developing adult onset allergies, I have not been able to eat or drink many of my early-life favorites. I also can’t eat or drink anything with histamines in it without having major problems. It’s a true fact that I haven’t had even 1 glass of wine problem-free for 8 years.

Recently, I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts and I learned about Wine Wands. Wands? What? That sat me straight up in my chair. Turns out that these are even better than the Fairy Godmother’s! I tried them. They are simple to use – you just stir them around in your glass of wine for 3 minutes and wallah! They take all the sulfites and histamine out of the wine.

For people who get wine headaches, they can say bye-bye to those. And, I don’t react to the histamines! They are amazing! I am taking them on my next Disney trip in December. This time, I will be able to visit Via Napoli at EPCOT and have some wine with my dinner. Woo hoo!

TED Talks: I have been watching TED Talks for many years. They feed my need for information. I am so happy to have that free tool to see as many seminars as I can digest for free! What a great selection of speakers too!

From Brene Brown to Simon Sinek to Tony Robbins to many, many other greats; I am so thankful for the these Youtube videos. There is such a vast number of them with such a diverse group of speakers, I will never run out of interesting content.

Disney Menus Online: My upcoming trip in December will be my first since becoming a Flexitarian. I have begun investigating the menus of the restaurants where we will be dining to make a cheat sheet for myself. I can carry it with me and will already know what I can order rather than trying to figure it out then.

Even though I will still have to have the help of the awesome Disney chefs, because of my allergies, at least this will cut down on the time it will take to order and receive my meals. I am very thankful for the menus being accessible online.

Planner Stickers: My planner keeps me on task and, boy, do I need it. Between working full-time, caring for 3 of my 4 grandchildren part-time, being a wife, mom, etc. life gets busy! I need the order of my planner. What I love most is that my only outlet for creativity lies solely in planner decorating.

I love being able to get pretty weekly sticker kits to make my sometimes overloaded pages still look pretty. It is a real pick-me-up! I know I can tackle anything! Still, looking at a pretty overloaded planner is better than a boring one!

I recently had some stickers personalized to say FPs, ADRs, and Pmts. These make it easy to mark the days I need to be up early to book fast passes or dining reservations; or when I need to make a payment for a guest. These make scheduling my days easier and I love that.

That’s about it for my fave five for August. What items brought you joy in August? Maybe you got something new or even found a new use for an old favorite? Please share in the comments below.
