My second granddaughter will be celebrating her 5th birthday next week. The day before that, we will be surprising her at her party with a special trip to Walt Disney World. A 5th birthday is a big deal in our family. We don’t plan princess makeovers or dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table during our annual family trips. These experiences are reserved for extra special occasions. This is one of those, for sure.
We are planning several special activities during our trip. And, since I always share my plans with all of you, I am sharing the details of our dining, activities, events and, of course, food and snack plans.
First, who’s going? This trip will be all girls. Birthday girl, McKinley, her 7-year-old sister, Aleyah, their mom and my DIL, Kay-Cee and me (Mimi). This was the same for Aleyah’s 5th birthday trip and we all had such a great time!
The first thing we planned is lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table. During our meal, we will enjoy a Mickey’s Celebration Cake to celebrate the special occasion.
Before our CRT reservation, we have planned makeovers for McKinley and Aleyah at the Ivy Trellis, inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. I believe this experience will be better for the girls than Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for several reasons:
1) the girls have long, thick hair and the hairstyles at Ivy Trellis are really pretty for long hair,
2) although McKinley really enjoys a tight ballerina bun in her hair, her sister does not like her hair pulled and she is tender-headed so I think she will prefer the curled style instead. McKinley can choose that day whether to have a ballerina bun or have her hair curled and down,
3) their hair won’t be matted down with “glitter glue” that I find hard to get out.
We will have princess dresses for them to wear and tiaras to adorn their hair as well. This will top off their look perfectly.
One of the special events we’ve planned is Early Morning Magic at Toy Story Land. This event is held from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. It includes full early access to the TSM rides: Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania! We’ll also have the chance to meet Buzz, Woody and Jessie while we explore that whimsical world. After riding as many times as we can, we will have a full breakfast. I think the birthday girl is going to love this! I will too!
All of us together will experience our first ever visit to the brand new Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White. I can’t wait to see what this is all about and who wouldn’t enjoy some times with the dwarfs?
McKinley loves to sing. Actually, we all love to sing so we are taking her to the Yehaa Bob Jackson show at the River Roose Lounge. This family-friendly audience participation show is so much fun. I’ve been several times before but the girls have not yet had the pleasure. I am sure we will have a great time!
So, what about new foods to try, as well as old favorites? I must tell you it will be a lot! We have the Disney Dining Plan for this trip so our reservations looks like this:
Breakfast at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (one of the girls’ all-time favorites)
Dinner at Storybook Dining with Snow White (brand new experience)
Breakfast at Be Our Guest (quick-service; having the dining plan is the only time I recommend breakfast here)
Late lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table (special birthday celebration)
Late Breakfast/early lunch at Tusker House (family favorite and the girls love it!)
Having the dining plan also means lots of opportunities to quelch my sweet tooth cravings. We are staying 4 nights and that means a total of 32 snack credits — 32 y’all!! We will be sharing the snacks, so that will provide quite a great variety of treats. Here is my list for this trip.
Snack Credit Eligible Treats
Butterfinger Cupcake and Carrot Cake Cookie (a never fail during every trip — Trolley Car Cafe, Hollywood Studios)
Cheshire Cat Tail (Cheshire Cafe, Magic Kingdom)
Mickey Waffle with Strawberries and Whipped Cream (enough for breakfast, even to share — Sleepy Hollow, Magic Kingdom)
Any other cupcakes that call my name (I.am.a.cupcake.girl!)
Out of Pocket Treats for Sharing
Nutella Waffle Sandwich (plenty for all 4 of us to share – Sleepy Hollow, Magic Kingdom)
Kitchen Sink (more than enough for all to share — Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Magic Kingdom)
All-American Sundae (peanut butter and chocolate goodness — Plaza Ice cream Parlor, Magic Kingdom)
New foods we want to try include:
Num Num Cookie (NEW Neighborhood Baker, Hollywood Studios)
Cheeseburger Spring Rolls (Adventureland Egg Roll Cart, Magic Kingdom)
3 Cheese Grilled Cheese and Brisket Melt (Woody’s Lunch Box, Hollywood Studios)
There are so many other wonderful items to try at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, my long list of food allergies keeps me from so many of them. Still, I make due the best I can and this list will grow by a large number while we are there discovering new items as menus change constantly at Disney.
What are your plans for your trip? I would love to hear all about what you hope to incorporate into your visit.
So grateful for the Disney Food Blog photos and for their channel, especially when planning my trips:)
